Project Details
LatStudios was engaged by SMEC to provide landscape architectural integration for the new Breakfast Creek / Yowoggera Green Bridge. Collaborating with COX Architecture the team has provided an integrated approach to the design for the pedestrian and cycle bridge for Brisbane City Council. The integration sees a highly considered active transport solution working in with Newstead Park's Heritage layers.

The 80-metre arch bridge links Newstead to Albion and connect to the Lores Bonney Riverwalk, a key element of the Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade, another key project for LatStudios.

The skewed alignment of the bridge was chosen by Council to minimize impacts on key heritage places including Newstead House and Newstead Park, provide accessible access and allow vessels to get through to Breakfast Creek.

The bridge features dedicated pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, and opened onto a new bridge landing at Newstead Park, with landscape and urban design features to integrate with heritage and the landscape setting.

LatStudios Design Achievements:
  • Integration of the dedicated cycle connection on Breakfast Creek Road through traffic lane reconfiguration.
  • Integration of the dedicated cycle lanes on Newstead Ave connecting the broader network, through redirection of traffic flows one way.
  • Enhanced accessible pedestrian connectivity through Newstead House gardens.
  • Enhanced arrival experience of Newstead Park.
  • New and upgraded planting preserving the heritage fabric of Newstead Park.
  • Enhancement of the Breakfast Creek edge experience and perceived personal safety.
