Project Details
Mackay Regional Council (MRC) has recognised the continuing success and growth of community sport across Mackay, most notably Mackay Stadium as a home ground for the Mackay State Rugby League team.

MRC engaged COX Architecture and LatStudios to develop a Master Plan to set out guiding principles and objectives for staged future expansion for the stadium and surrounding sports precinct.

The project site is located just outside the Mackay City Centre, adjacent to Mackay Airport. The 20ha project site is centralised around Mackay Stadium and flanked by numerous sports fields and facilities to the south and west.

Key opportunities for the sports precinct include:
  • Integration of the Stadium and community sports fields to leverage cross club benefits
  • Precinct planning to improve field layout, functionality and inter-relationships
  • Stadium expansion & ticket gateway
  • New sports fields, courts and club facilities
  • Increased parking capacity &dedicated drop-off zones
  • New spectator grandstands
  • Improved traffic circulation through the site and direct connection to the Bluewater Trail
  • Consideration of all abilities and genders access to and use of the precinct.
