Project Details
Working with clients Vicinity Centres, LatStudios brief included a comprehensive update to the existing Entertainment & Leisure Precinct.

The update of an ambiguous arrival area was focused to better reflecting and re-connecting the local community within a growing area 13kms north-east of the Melbourne CBD, as well as enhancing both outdoor aesthetic, customer experiences and year-round comfort.

Central to the design outcome was an infusion of multipurpose passive play opportunities within elements that were both sculptural and immersive, and a resolution to inspire joy, delight and familiarity of a local landscape within its dreamscape interpretation.

Benefits of LatStudios' design:
  • Informed by Council policy and guidelines and stakeholder workshops
  • Reflected the characterful, proud and diverse sense of identity of the local community shaped by a rich history and culture
  • Grounded a welcoming place to linger and connect
  • Created a highly consolidated approach to materiality, textures and sensorial experience
  • Considered experiences a cross scale for both adults and children
  • Embraced a forest garden planting palette with elements of colour and whimsy across grass swathes and form
  • Integrated the unique character and local heritage story of the Darebin Creek Forest Park within a sense of a creek habitat, water play and forest garden setting
  • Wove the sense of open ended story based play amongst moments that considered light, awe and spectacle.
