Green space is now well recognised as providing positive physical and mental health benefits.

The Green Heart is a precious green remnant situated at the centre of the evolving and planned future Herston Quarter. The Green Heart Master Plan represents Metro North Health & Hospital Service's (MNHHS) vision for this space as a place of refuge and respite for staff, patients and visitors of all ages, now and into the future as green space becomes ever more precious with the increasing densification of the precinct.

The primary drivers of this project were to:

• Define and support MNHHS's strategic aspirations for the Green Heart in its context within the broader precinct,
• Understand the contextual influences and interrelationships both within the Green Heart and with connections to it and the buildings and spaces that interface with it;
• Address key issues relating to the fragmented nature of the space and the challenging topography;
• Provide high quality public realm, with a variety of spaces that cater for a variety of passive uses and social interaction;
• Be robust and flexible to adapt for future growth needs;
• Demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and sustainability.
