Our responsibility to environment

LatStudios is dedicated to fostering sustainability and achieving climate-positive outcomes in both our office operations and project undertakings. Below, we detail our Sustainability and Climate Action Plan and highlight recent projects that exemplify our commitment to climate positivity.

Sustainability and Climate Action Plan

As part of our internal Climate Positive Design working group, the LatStudios Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (SCAP) seeks to provide both a framework and response to guide our professional practice, operate as a business and deliver tangible climate positive and sustainable outcomes in our projects.

The SCAP focuses on creating healthy and resilient environments, considers ongoing connection to Country, is accessible and welcoming, is locally responsive and includes authentic and innovative approaches to materials and technology.

Urban Design Guidelines for Flood Prone Areas, 2019–2022

We have worked closely with Melbourne Water on several projects that bring together urban design and the careful management and protection of our waterways. This includes collaborating with the City of Melbourne, City of Port Phillip and State Government departments to create Urban Design Guidelines for Flood Prone Areas. This crucial work seeks to incorporate good urban design practices and streetscape responses with flood responses, raised floor levels, protection of life and property and the impact of new developments on the amenity of waterways.

Guide to Green Building Elements, 2021

The Guide to Green Building Elements (the Guide) formed a key part of Brisbane City Council’s 2018 Brisbane’s Future Blueprint, providing actionable outcomes to encourage and guide new green open spaces within urban environments. The Guide considers the integration of vegetation on built form, including; rooftop gardens, green roofs, green façades (trellis systems), terrace edge planters and green walls. The Guide supports the successful design, assessment, delivery, performance and maintenance of green building or living greenery elements within Brisbane City Council.

The Green Grid: Inner City Brisbane Study, 2017

We were commissioned to develop The Green Grid Study for the Queensland State Government. The Study outlines how to increase the quantity, quality and interconnectedness of Brisbane’s open space. Green city strategies have the potential to define the image of a city and future liveability, whilst creating sustainable urban environments that support community health and provide positive places for people to live and work. The Green Grid Study struck a balance in considering Brisbane city’s liveability, indoor/outdoor sub-tropical climate, preserving natural systems within the city and building in resilience to the impacts of climate change.
